Modern fencing is a martial art that is both challenging and safe. Today’s fencing is an aerobic and graceful sport combining agility, strength, coordination, strategy, speed and safety. There are numerous benefits of learning to fence. Fencing enhances mental and psychological skills in children. The concentration required improves relaxation while developing emotional reasoning.
Coach JoAnn Vaiani has been fencing for 35 years. At 15, she was the youngest C rated Junior Olympic Fencer. Taught by the best NJ coaches, she now teaches youth fencers at the Atlantic Fencing Academy in Colts Neck. She is the mother of two children, John, a graduate of St Catharine’s, and Nicole, a 8th grader in SCS. Both children are accomplished national fencers. When it comes to the children’s swashbuckling expectations, safety is Coach Vaiani’s foremost priority.
